Under new local management, The Shack has renegotiated vendor contracts to lower prices for the community while preserving the quality guests expect. This focus on value—paired with strong, hands‑on leadership—has helped the restaurant grow financially and provide jobs for more than 65 employees, boosting Palm Bay’s local economy. As Mayor Rob Medina shared, “Not only are they investing in our community, but they are employing additional staff, employing more families, and allowing these families to prosper in our city.”

Located along the picturesque Indian River at 4845 Dixie Highway NE, The Shack Riverfront Restaurant & Tiki Bar has been a beloved Palm Bay landmark since the 1950s. Today, it remains a warm, character-rich destination proudly owned by local resident and veteran Kathy Kittleson and her husband, Rob.

More than a dining spot, The Shack is a lively community gathering place known for its outstanding food and inviting atmosphere. Guests enjoy complimentary valet service and genuine hospitality from the moment they arrive.

The restaurant features 299 seats across two distinct dining experiences. Indoors, recent renovations introduced a tranquil private dining room complete with a waterfall and an elevated menu. Outdoors, the energetic Tiki Bar offers a relaxed, open-air vibe with island-inspired décor and a new dock for boaters.

A Commitment to Community

Since taking ownership in 2019, Kathy and Rob Kittleson have infused The Shack with the values of family, friendship, and community. Drawing inspiration from neighborhood traditions, they’ve transformed the restaurant into a bustling local hub that now welcomes more than 100,000 guests each year.

The Shack’s community involvement runs deep. It regularly hosts family-friendly events such as live music, karaoke, and bingo. The restaurant also partners with organizations like the American Legion to support veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. From cancer awareness fundraisers to tributes honoring fallen heroes, The Shack consistently shows up for its community. Local schools and educators have also benefited from thousands of dollars in donated gift cards.

In recognition of its positive impact on Palm Bay’s economy, culture, and community spirit, The Shack Riverfront Restaurant & Tiki Bar was honored with an official City Proclamation at the July 17th Regular City Council Meeting.
